From Drop Zone to Dream Mudroom

Every home has that one space — the “catch-all” zone where bags, coats, and shoes pile up after a busy day. For our Valleybrook clients, that was their mudroom. It had potential but lacked purpose. The sink wasn’t being used, the lighting felt dim, and storage wasn’t optimized.

Our vision was clear: create a multi-functional, family-friendly space that blended style with substance — and gave their sweet puppy a spa-worthy wash station of their own.

Our Main Goals

When we began this project, our two main goals were improving function and storage. To achieve that, we:

• Added new cabinetry for additional storage, ensuring there’s a designated place for everything from coats and bags to pet supplies.
• Raised the upper cabinets to the ceiling, maximizing vertical storage and creating a cleaner, more custom look.
• Updated the lighting to a brighter, more welcoming fixture that instantly opened up the space and made it feel fresh and inviting.

These thoughtful updates brought both beauty and efficiency to a space that was once purely utilitarian.

Before: A Forgotten Utility Space

The original mudroom had sturdy cabinetry and a large sink, but it wasn’t serving the family’s needs. The bench became a landing pad for clutter, baskets overflowed, and the lighting made the space feel darker and smaller.

It functioned as a drop zone, not a well-designed hub.

After: A Purposeful, Polished Puppy Spa

Now, this mudroom has transformed into the Valleybrook Puppy Spa — a bright, efficient, and inviting space that meets every need.

The redesigned sink area doubles as a dog wash station, featuring a handheld sprayer and a durable countertop that makes bath time simple. The cabinetry flows seamlessly through the room, creating a cohesive and elevated look.

Warm wood tones anchor the space, while lighter walls and granite counters add contrast and brightness. Functional details like hooks, woven baskets, and thoughtful accessories bring comfort and character.

The result is a mudroom that’s both beautiful and hardworking — designed to serve this family (and their pup!) for years to come.

Every design choice in this project was intentional:
